DILLEY, Margaret L.

Margaret Louise Dilley

Margaret Louise Dilley, 93, of Frederick, MD passed away peacefully on February 22, 2018. A life goal to reach age 93, she made it! Born to Hildegard and John A. Moyer on December 14, 1924, she grew up in Altoona, PA, moved to Washington, DC in 1939, graduating in 1942 from Anacostia High. In 1948, she married Richard W. Dilley, her beloved husband of 49 years.

Margaret worked at Verizon for 30 years, entering as an accountant, then promoted to Executive Secretary for the final 20 years. Her meticulous organization skills were a wonderful blessing truly unmatched – if she owned it, it was labeled! A vibrant member of Verizon’s Pioneers Club Activities Committee, she organized their luncheons, day trips, and the entertainment twice a month to local nursing homes. Through age 88, she continued collecting items from local businesses to distribute to the “elderly.” Many 20 years her junior, the irony always pleased her!

She loved stamp collecting, genealogy, needlepoint and sewing, nearly all her clothes handmade. She was proud to be part of Our Lady of Good Council Women’s group which created the “Virgin Mary with Jesus” needlepoint which hangs at the church in Vienna, Va.

Besides her parents and husband, the sisters and brothers preceding her were Edna Moyer, Mary Moyer, Hilda Trumble, James Moyer and Thomas Moyer. She is survived by two sisters, Helen LeCato and Rita Blasie & husband Bill, along with her son, Richard J. Dilley & wife Debbie, and three granddaughters: Melinda Eldin, Carolyn Reid & husband Garrett, and Janette Case & husband Marvin.

A Catholic service will be held at 1 pm on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring, MD. The viewing will precede the service from 12 – 12:50 pm. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suitland, MD.
